Lucky bastards

At SXSW

Buzzcocks played a rousing set at South by Southwest today (March 16), closing out Spin Magazine's party at Stubb's Barbeque on a high note.

The seminal punk-pop band were introduced by former Jane's Addiction frontman and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell, who emphasised the band's longevity and tremendous influence.

Guitarist/vocalist Pete Shelley exhibited the energy of a 20-year-old, and led his band through the paces during their hour-plus set.

"Austin power, yeah baby!" he said, and the crowd erupted.

The band, which recently celebrated their 30th anniversary, played several hits from their early days including 'Orgasm Addict', 'Sick City Sometimes', 'Promises' and 'Ever Fallen In Love'.

Good Lord

My fav Brit punks of a certain age, Buzzcocks, have one of their tunes, "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" featured in a commercial.

For AARP. Yes, THAT AARP.

I literally fell off my chair laughing. I don't blame them, most punks didn't make a hell of a lot of money, and you have to pay the rent. But AARP? Hee hee.

Buzzcocks On Tour

Yet another cruel reminder that I live in the Midwest. And have no $$ to go to the U.K. to attend concerts. Oh Shit.

The Buzzcocks have announced a special birthday tour to round off the year.

The tour “Buzzcocks 30” will also include a retrospective photo exhibition at the shows with classic shots from the 70s and 80s by Chris Gabrin and Kevin Cummins.

The exhibition will also feature the band’s original album artwork by pioneering graphic designer Malcolm Garrett. He was responsible for designing the eye-catching sleeve artwork for all of their early records including 1980’s “A Different Kind Of Tension.”
