Yes, yes, the Libs (minus John, who was apparently busy with, um, Yeti) reuniting for a gig is very, very, very exciting.

Babyshambles played a set before the reunion, taking the stage at 2:15am (BST) to play seven songs: 'I Wish', 'Killamangiro', 'Delivery', 'UnStookietitled', 'Back From The Dead', 'Baddie’s Boogie' and 'Albion'.

Then to the sound of screams and cheers from the crowd Barat took to the stage and strapped on a guitar, while Powell set up behind the drum kit. Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell remained on stage to complete the four-piece.

The four-some launched into a frenetic version of early Libertines hit 'What A Waster', with Barat and Doherty sharing a microphone as they sang the lyrics.They then played 'Up The Bracket', 'What Katy Did', 'Can't Stand Me Now', 'Time For Heroes' and 'Death On The Stairs', with Doherty leaping into the crowd near the end of the short set.

Barat and Powell left the stage to more cheers then Babyshambles' Adam Ficek and Mick Whitnall returned – plus a surprise guest.

The band were joined by their former guitarist Pat Walden, now playing with three-piece Big Dave, for the finale, playing 'Pipedown' and 'Fuck Forever' to close the eventful show in kinetic fashion.

After beating the likes of Gavin and Stacey to Best TV, he explained his experiences over dinner.

"I'm sitting next to Brandon from The Killers so that's quite fun," he said.

"We keep making silly remarks like schoolboys, like we're 13 and laughing. And Pete Doherty just bit my ear really hard for a photo.

We don't know each other that well and we had to be intertwined, and it all got a bit steamy and he bit my ear - Mike Tyson style! Insane."

Hit singles 'Killamangiro' and 'Fuck Forever' sparked riotous scenes amongst fans, whilst Doherty dedicated the aforementioned 'Unstookietitled' to black civil rights activist Marcus Garvey.

'Albion' was later dedicated to the memory of Daniel Squires, a 16 year-old fan who Doherty befriended and played at the wake of after his death from bone marrow cancer.

"He's sadly no longer with us," Doherty said.The song's lyrics were changed in customary fashion, with mentions of Sheffield and Wakefield reflecting the gig's Yorkshire setting.

Doherty jumped into the photopit at the close of the song to collect hats from fans, which he then proceeded to pile on his head.

Pete Doherty has played at the wake of a 16-year-old fan who died from cancer. The Babyshambles singer and ex-boyfriend of Kate Moss formed a special bond with Daniel Squires after meeting him last year. Daniel died in his mother Becky's arms on July 4 after losing his battle with bone cancer.

Doherty, 28, attended the wake at the Golden Lion pub in Jarrow, South Tyneside, and spent an hour with the family. He took to the stage with his guitar, teaming up with one of Daniel's friends for an emotional tribute
following the funeral at South Shields Crematorium.

The boy may be constantly conducting chemistry experiments upon himself, but he has a good heart.

The musician Pete Doherty left Wormwood Scrubs prison this morning after serving 29 days of a 14-week sentence for breaching his probation. Prison life was "a lot of gangsters and Radio 4", he told waiting reporters, borrowing a phone from one so he could ask a friend to pick him up. Emerging from the west London prison's gate at 7.10am, smoking a cigarette, the former Libertines frontman said: "Thank you Mrs Thatcher for putting me in the company of the most dangerous criminals in the country."

And this next bit didn't surprise me at all, but I still laughed until I cried.

He said he was looking forward to a rum and Coke and spending time with his cats.

Oh Peter, you're such a cat lady.

Now, as for your first activities outside, other than the 'Shambles gig next week (and staying on the straighter and narrower), why don't you and Drew go to a hair stylist?

They can try to get a brush through your hair, and convince your bassist that while the feather cut suits Wellah! just wonderfully, that he's much too fine, er, YOUNG for it.

Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has been jailed for 14 weeks for failing to turn up to probation hearings on time and drug use. Doherty attended West London Magistrates Court today (April 8), where Judge Davinder Lachar handed the singer/guitarist the sentence. A spokesperson for the court said that Doherty had been jailed for "breach of time keeping, non-compliance of his order and using different drugs". Doherty had been given a suspended jail sentence for possession of drugs and driving illegally in October last year. His supervision order required him to make regular visits to court for progress reports, as well as take part in a drug rehabilitation programme. He was threatened with up to four months in jail if he broke the law during this period

Listen, Petey, I couldn't bring myself to listen to either 'Shotter's Nation' or 'The Blinding' EP today, that's how pissed off I am. Much like brushing my teeth or texting Kaz, this is something that I do every day.

Knees Up

Chas & Dave were never, and are not, cool. They haven't been given the critical rehabilitation of, say, Ian Dury or Madness. And yet, in the age of The X Factor and punk foursomes who weren't even born in 1977, Chas & Dave sell out live dates across the UK. Pete Doherty, a long-time admirer, says he was inspired to pick up a guitar thanks to their music – and Doherty supported them at a rowdy Saturday night gig in Chatham, Kent, waving a flag as he accompanied Chas on vocals for "Ain't No Pleasing You", an insanely catchy ballad of wounded male pride, which reached No 2 in 1982.

This year, they had three slots at Glastonbury, their second appearance at the event. Their Christmas Beano has become a festive tradition, not only for Libertines fans but also for self-proclaimed "geezers" who identify with the band's working-class values and find authenticity in their trad music and un-Americanised accents.

And awwww, it's Fanboy Pete! I love Fanboy Pete! Almost as much as I love Pete's tendency to take his cat everywhere with him. And he actually sounds REALLY good here.
