So much awesome
Stephen Colbert will spend the holidays with Elvis Costello, Feist, John Legend, Willie Nelson and Toby Keith on the host’s Comedy Central special A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!. The one-hour special, scheduled to air on November 18th, has a plot about Colbert being snowed in in an upstate New York cabin, so he and his musical friends play tunes to pass the time. All the original songs were written by Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger and David Javerbaum, who also collaborated on the Broadway version of John Waters’ Cry Baby. Jon Stewart will also be on hand, duetting with Colbert on “Hanukkah,” while the entire ensemble will come together on “(What’s So Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding.” A DVD of the special will hit shelves a week later, with proceeds benefiting the charity Feeding America.

I'm not going to lie-
Getty, who suffered from advanced dementia and died on July 22 at the age of 84, wasn't always a sitcom queen. She got her start in Yiddish theater, but didn't break out until 1981, when she played Harvey Fierstein's mother in the Broadway play Torch Song Trilogy. She also had small roles in Tootsie (1982) and Mask (1985). In 1985 she started on The Golden Girls, which was an instant hit and quickly became a staple of NBC's Saturday night lineup.

Now this sounds interesting...
BBC2 has commissioned a major drama about the Troubles in Northern Ireland that will feature James Nesbitt, with Liam Neeson also being lined up for a starring role. The one-off piece, to be called Five Minutes of Heaven, will be set in Belfast and tell a dramatised version of the real life story of 17-year-old Alistair Little, a member of the Protestant Ulster Volunteer Force.
Little was convicted in 1975 and spent 12 years in prison for the murder of 19-year-old Catholic Jim Griffin in Lurgan. The murder was witnessed by the victim's 11-year-old brother, Joe, and the film will look at the impact of his sibling's death on him and his family.

Lago Grey, Patagonia
One of the places on earth I would most like to visit. Patagonia. Why yes, I do watch a lot of 'Globetrekker,' why do you ask?

Best resolution, ever
I resolve to handle every situation I encounter this year by thinking “How would Jordan from Scrubs handle this?”

Nuh uh
Boyz 'N the Hood's John Singleton has reportedly signed on to direct the long-awaited big screen version of cheesy 80s TV show The A-Team. Latino Review says the film-maker, whose portfolio in recent years has included the likes of 2 Fast 2 Furious and the remake of Shaft, has agreed to shoot a new version of the story of Colonel Hannibal Smith and his merry band of Vietnam vets.
Series creator Stephen J Cannell has been trying to get an A-Team feature off the ground for a number of years. The plan is to update the series to the modern day, with Smith's team now comprising veterans of the Iraq war. There would also be a more serious tone than the TV show, and - in a landmark move - characters who are shot at in the new version may actually expire.
*at one point, I recall reading that The Clooney had read for the role of Hannibal, and have since become ever so slightly fixated this. Just a little bit.

Hee
So, imagine my delight when I discovered that she has her own blog! YAY! And it contains things like this-
For almost a year now, I have been sleeping on one of these motherfucking pieces of shit mattresses. You know how it is. Or, you would know, if you’ve ever moved from, well, anywhere else to the lovely island of Manhattan. You have to get rid of EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER OWNED because NOTHING YOU OWN will EVER FIT into the SMALLEST FUCKING APARTMENT ON THE PLANET. This doesn’t just mean you give your books to your friend and leave your 36-inch tube TV on someone else’s credenza — wait, scratch that, on YOUR credenza because, hi, THAT SHIT WON’T FIT IN YOUR APARTMENT EITHER so you give it ALL to your friend because at least SHE will be able to get years of enjoyment out of it — oh, no.
It means you donate antique furniture to the Salvation Army, including a lovely library table that belonged to your parents for, like, thirty years, and a chest of drawers that held your father’s clothes for at least fifteen years; you throw every last piece of IKEA furniture you hauled all the way from Chicago to Charleston out onto the curb and watch as your neighbors pilfer said pieces almost as quickly as you leave them out there; and you bag up 95% of your wardrobe because you are going to move to a place where, not only are eight pairs of shabby capri pants and 3/4-sleeve blouses in various sherbet-toned colors totally inappropriate for the Big Apple, YOU WILL NOT HAVE ROOM FOR THEM ANYWAY, SO JUST GIVE THEM TO THE DAMN HOMELESS ALREADY.
TWOP was a incubator for my favorite writers. Who else started there? The Right Honorable Heather and Jessica GoFugYourself, who were in charge of recapping 7th Heaven.

This week's sign that the Apocalypse is upon us*
I don't remember a lot about his set, other than the fact that he was, ahem, a bit portly, and he stripped down to his tightie whites and rolled about on the stage at one point. Icky.
The lack of recollection of his set has mainly to do with The Strokes BLOWING my mind during the main bit. Mmmm, 2002-era Julian. Fabbbbrrrrrrrriiiizioooo...... They knocked me out of my classic rock rut, they did!
So color me surprised Har Mar has his own teevee show in development.

Fwaaaah, Spy Daddy
Jennifer Garner - with hubby Ben Affleck - caught her old Alias co-star Victor Garber Sunday night at the Huntington Theatre Company's revival of Noel Coward's Present Laughter in Boston.
Not only did Garber play Garner's father on the Alias but the actor also got a minster's license and married Ben and Jen in their private Caribbean ceremony.
They're like Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight!

Fwaaah, Mr. Simm
One of the best actors of his generation, and long a cult star and unlikely sex symbol, Simm, 36, has been threatening to hit the big time for a while. State of Play raised his profile. But it was the time-travelling cop show Life on Mars that put him on the map. Not only did the show pull in more than seven million viewers, the DVD became one of last year's biggest sellers. In November, Life on Mars won Best Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards. And Hollywood producer David E Kelley (of Ally McBeal fame) is planning to make a US version.
Bit worried about that last part. Great, Kelly will try to redeem the Gene Genie, Sam will talk to an imaginary baby and Annie will be anorexic in the US version. Yay. Go America.

I am so excited
By way of heralding its much-anticipated return to BBC1 tonight, Matthew Graham, the co-creator of drama series Life On Mars, is recalling the show's genesis (its working title, he recalls, was Ford Cortina), and evoking a world with which readers of a certain age will probably be all too familiar. The year is 1973, and John Simm, a 21st-century detective with 21st-century sensibilities and morals, is stranded in a time when the police, as Graham puts it, were "a state within a state" and ethics came a poor second to nailing villains. Most of the cars on the road seemed to be brown. Britain gave off a funny aroma, equal parts cigarette smoke, overcooked vegetables and what connoisseurs of aftershave knew as "the great smell of Brut".
