I don't want to talk about it.

It's still too raw- I've never had a band split that I've loved dearly. At least when I've been aware of them... (read- The Libs)

Yes, I know- quite a few of the songs sound the same, lyrically, but my GOD, does Noel do a good job with the tunes... the strings on 'Stand By Me?' COME. ON. They're insane.

And now it's Liam's band. Our Kid, who wrote 'Songbird.'

Oh my.

RIP, Oasis.

Nice!

The Arctics third album goes in at #1. Just like the first two. Got it today, and I must say, 'Cornerstone' is one of the best things I've heard in... forever.

Arctic Monkeys' third album 'Humbug' is Number One - it out-sold the rest of the Top Five combined - while the east London rapper has scored his third chart-topper in a row with 'Holiday'.

If wishes were horses....

The Hills' Spencer Pratt Wants to Be the Next Brad Pitt

On a related note, I want to put everyone who irritates me on a rocket to the sun, which is also not going to happen.

Though Spedi would be on said rocket if it did...

Things that frighten me for $1000, Alex

At work, Mom has started putting my iPod on the Weller/Style Council/Jam playlist. A LOT.

This is why

I adore The Wire- he's just a big cross-dressing fanboy...

Nicky Wire, Manic Street Preachers

Patience, Take That

This is not an ironic choice. It's the greatest comeback single in history. If Neil Young had written it, people would be calling it a masterpiece. I've always liked Take That, too. They looked so brilliant back in the day and did everything right, but this is something else. It's got such a dark lyric: "My heart is numb, has no feeling/ So while I'm healing/ Just try and have a little patience". There's also a maturity about it that suits the boys all grown-up. Gary Barlow is a genius; I won't have anyone argue against him. When Alex Turner slagged off Take That at the 2006 Q awards for getting an award, I nearly lost it. James [Dean Bradfield from the Manics] was grabbing me by the arm, saying: "Don't lose it, Nicky." You get so many alternative bands banging on about how to make perfect pop, and this kicks all their arses.

'Where Did All the Love Go?'- Kasabian

Great track, fantastic album. And Serge has eyeliner on, bless.

Oh my

'Cocksucker Blues' finally, um, leaked, online...

The Rolling Stones'banned documentary 'Cocksucker Blues' has appeared online.

The film, commissioned by the band for their 1972 US tour to be covered by photographer Robert Frank, was banned by the band due to its content, which included drug taking and various other rock 'n' roll antics.

Tee hee

A song about handjobs on the critical 3rd album. God, I love young Master Turner.

On an unrelated note, am completely disturbed that not only does Cookie now have a beard, he's no longer as darlin' as he used to be.

There are many avenues open to Turner, but perhaps the one you would least expect him to take is to start writing songs about his penis. And yet, here he is, opening Humbug with My Propeller, on which he spends three and a half minutes using a string of aviation metaphors in what appears to be a protracted attempt to convince someone to – and let's not be needlessly bashful here – wank him off. "I can't get it started on my own," he leers. "'Ave a spin of my propeller."

Holy moly

Yes, yes, the Libs (minus John, who was apparently busy with, um, Yeti) reuniting for a gig is very, very, very exciting.

BUT PADDY PLAYED WITH ZEE SHAMBLES AGAIN!!!! PATRICK MOTHERFUCKING WALDEN!!!! PLAYING 'PIPEDOWN!!!!!'

TO THE YOUTUBE!

Babyshambles played a set before the reunion, taking the stage at 2:15am (BST) to play seven songs: 'I Wish', 'Killamangiro', 'Delivery', 'UnStookietitled', 'Back From The Dead', 'Baddie’s Boogie' and 'Albion'.

Then to the sound of screams and cheers from the crowd Barat took to the stage and strapped on a guitar, while Powell set up behind the drum kit. Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell remained on stage to complete the four-piece.

The four-some launched into a frenetic version of early Libertines hit 'What A Waster', with Barat and Doherty sharing a microphone as they sang the lyrics. They then played 'Up The Bracket', 'What Katy Did', 'Can't Stand Me Now', 'Time For Heroes' and 'Death On The Stairs', with Doherty leaping into the crowd near the end of the short set.

Barat and Powell left the stage to more cheers then Babyshambles' Adam Ficek and Mick Whitnall returned – plus a surprise guest.

The band were joined by their former guitarist Pat Walden, now playing with three-piece Big Dave, for the finale, playing 'Pipedown' and 'Fuck Forever' to close the eventful show in kinetic fashion.

Awwwwwwww

America's first family have chosen a six-month-old Portuguese water dog to be the first pet.

President Barack Obama's daughters, 10-year-old Malia and
seven-year-old Sasha, have settled on a black and white pup, a White House official told the Associated Press last night.

The dog, a gift from the Massachusetts senator Ted Kennedy, who ownsseveral Portuguese water dogs, will make his debut on Tuesday afternoon.

The Washington Post reported that Obama's daughters chose the
name Bo for the pup because
Michelle Obama's father was nicknamed Diddley – an apparent reference to the singer Bo Diddley.

According to the newspaper, the dog has "tuxedo-black fur, with a white chest, white paws and a rakish white goatee".

Sad

Miss Goody may have been many things, but 27 is awfully young to pass on to the next world...

Despite undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Goody learned in February that cancer had spread to other organs and was warned she had only a short time to live. The prognosis propelled her to try to secure the financial future of her two young sons – Bobby, five, and Freddie, four – through a series of media deals thought to be worth £1m.

The former dental nurse shot to fame on the 2002 series of Big Brother where she was ridiculed by media commentators for her appearance and ignorance – she asked whether East Anglia was "abroad" and thought Rio de Janeiro was a person. She came fourth and spent the next couple of years making the most of her fame – producing keep-fit DVDs, opening a beauty salon, writing her autobiography, launching her own perfume and appearing on television shows including Wife Swap and Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes.

The public turned against her in 2007 after she was accused of racism and bullying towards Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother. More than 45,000 people complained to the media regulator Ofcom about Goody's behaviour towards Shetty.

Goody visited India to apologise for the distress her actions had caused and had hoped her appearance on, Bigg Boss, the India version of Big Brother would also help to make amends.

Hopefully this will lead to increased numbers of women seeking cervical cancer screenings.

RIP, Jade.

Imagine...

Around $1.2 million in illegal drugs was seized over the weekend as 75,000 fans descended on Hampton, VA for the reunion of Phish.Over
$68,000 in cash was also seized and 194 people arrested at the event, which saw
Phish perform three nights in a row after almost five years away from the live circuit.

Man,

this shit is FUCKED UP.

Nine years old. NINE. I played with damn Barbies till I was 13. And they excommunicate her mom. And the damn doctors.

Not her alleged rapist.

"More serious" than raping a 9 year-old.

This? THIS IS WHY I NO LONGER ATTEND REGULARLY ATTEND CHURCH.

NINE. YEARS. OLD.

They'll probably canonize that freaking bishop.

A senior Vatican cleric has defended the excommunication of the mother and doctors of a nine-year-old girl who had an abortion in Brazil after being raped.

Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, head of the Catholic church's Congregation for Bishops, told the daily La Stampa on Saturday that the twins the girl had been carrying had a right to live.

"It is a sad case but the real problem is that the twins conceived were two innocent persons, who had the right to live and could not be eliminated," he said.

Re, who also heads the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, added: "Life must always be protected, the attack on the Brazilian church is unjustified."

The row was triggered by the termination on Wednesday of twin foetuses carried by a nine-year-old allegedly raped by her stepfather in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco.

The regional archbishop, Jose Cardoso Sobrinho, pronounced excommunication for the mother for authorising the operation and doctors who carried it out for fear that the slim girl would not survive carrying the foetuses to term.

"God's law is above any human law. So when a human law ... is contrary to God's law, this human law has no value," Cardoso had said.

He also said the accused stepfather would not be expelled from the church. Although the man allegedly committed "a heinous crime ... the abortion - the elimination of an innocent life - was more serious".

Battista Re agreed, saying: "Excommunication for those who carried out the abortion is just" as a pregnancy termination always meant ending an innocent life.

The case has sparked fierce debate in Brazil, where abortion is illegal except in cases of rape or if the woman's health is in danger.

On Friday, President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva hit out at Sobrinho's decision, saying: "As a Christian and a Catholic, I deeply regret that a bishop of the Catholic church has such a conservative attitude."

"The doctors did what had to be done: save the life of a girl of nine years old," he said, adding that "in this case, the medical profession was more right than the church."

It is reported by the Associated Press that he also made a donation to the group of $1,000.

OhPleaseOhPleaseOhPlease

As Girls Aloud get their breaths back after scooping a much-deserved Brit Award, a mole in the girls’ camp tells me that American domination is next on their “to do” list.

After signing a three-album deal with record label Fascination - which will land the girls a pay rise - record company bosses are priming Cheryl Cole, 25, Nadine Coyle, 23, and co for a stateside assault.

“Cheryl is opening lots of doors for us and The Promise is doing really well in US nightclubs,” my source told me, adding that it’s now down to Cheryl to persuade the rest of the girls that 2010 is the year for the band’s global domination.

If you want the really random gossip though, just ask The Mighty Boosh comedian Noel Fielding.

After beating the likes of Gavin and Stacey to Best TV, he explained his experiences over dinner.

"I'm sitting next to Brandon from The Killers so that's quite fun," he said.

"We keep making silly remarks like schoolboys, like we're 13 and laughing. And Pete Doherty just bit my ear really hard for a photo.

We don't know each other that well and we had to be intertwined, and it all got a bit steamy and he bit my ear - Mike Tyson style! Insane."

One of my favorites

from the Oscars- Freida Pinto in John Galliano.

Also, how cute is this?

“I am very clumsy,” confessed Pinto, a 24-year-old who had never made a film before. “Angelina Jolie and Kate Winslet have been looking out for me, telling me to relax, but I am not sure whether I can breathe, wave and walk at the same time without falling over.”

Hmmm

Many years ago, when I was but a naive Cygirl, I dated a guy who I thought was Prince Charming and would whisk me off to his castle in his vintage Chevy truck where I would bear his children and loll about being pampered constantly.

I found out after two years that he was more like the things that came out of the Hellmouth that Buffy had to keep stabbing through the heart with a wooden stake.

In short, he was a lying sackashit, dumber than a sack of hair ratbastard.

My point?

He keeps requesting me as a friend on Facebook. I keep ignoring his requests, but he keeps a-asking.

In his profile picture, he's doing the Shocker hand gesture. Seriously. He's 34 fucking years old. Douchebag.

You know, it WAS a long time ago, and frankly, I'm over it. My friends, however, are not. When I forwarded the initial request to my girls... woooweeee. My delicate ears have never heard such language. Stace said-

"OH MY GOD. I have no words. Wait, I have one. FUCKER."

And I'm pretty sure a blue cloud is still hanging over Casey's condo in Chicago.

I'd approve his request for the LOLZ, but I apparently don't live too far from him, and I wouldn't be too hard to find. And I have no, nada, nyet desire to have him show up on my stoop, prostrating himself at the cute-shoe-clad feet of The One Who Got Away Because He Was A Jackass.

Oh, WELL-DONE

Co-headlining a gig with Etta "freaking" James? BABY GIRL!

Adele has announced the dates of a US tour, which kicks off in March. The singer, who won two Grammy Awards earlier this month including best new artist, will kick off the jaunt in San Diego on March 9.

She'll play dates in Arizona, Austin, Houston and Cleveland, making a special stop in New York on May 5 where she'll celebrate her 21st birthday with a headlining show at Roseland Ballroom.

She's also set to co-headline a show at the Hollywood Bowl with her "idol", Etta James, on June 28.

Typical

British understatement in regards to this picture from the Brit Awards-

Girls Aloud were very pleased to win the award for Best Single

Oh Lord

Various Valentine's Day happenings

1. A local loudmouth (has a good heart, just is real obnoxious) called the shop for a dozen roses to be sent to his (equally loud, yet good-hearted) wife. Well done. But...

He wanted 11 red roses and one blue.

Guys, don't make us do that to a perfectly innocent white rose. They scream when we pull out the floral paint. Seriously.

But the card, THE CARD, was the kicker. He wanted it to read-

"I love your sexy ass."

I am not joking. That was the actual message. Now every time I seem them, I'll be thinking that he's fixated on his wife's arse. Which is admirable after 20+ years of marriage but dude, come on... making someone else type that? Man...

Of course, major laughs were had later when my girl, Trace, asked what the blue rose meant. I informed her that "In the language of flowers, a blue rose means you have a sexy ass." With a completely straight face.

She fell for it for a bit.

2. Goofy looking guy, major Howdy Doody resemblance, comes into the shop and orders a decently sized bouquet (50 smackeroos) to be delivered to whom we assumed to be his girlfriend. He opted to fill out the card himself, and we left him alone to do so.

No lie, it took him 45 minutes to fill out the 2x3 inch card.

So of course we were WILD to know what the card said. And it may possibly have fallen out of the not-sealed envelope. Whoopsie.

Rather than the highly romantic message we were hoping for, it contained wishes for a good day at work and hopes for God's Blessings upon her.

We all fell the floor laughing. I barely made it to the bathroom in time.

It took him that long to come up with the least romantic thing possible. Mentioning work and the Big Guy. Hot.

Imagine our difficultly in keeping a straight face less than an hour later when a local cutie pie (who is a totally sweet lad) came in to order a significantly larger bouquet for delivery FOR THE SAME WOMAN.

And he wanted the card to be blank. Guys, don't do this. Please. Because then confused women call the shop wondering who the hell sent them the flowers.

Apparently, the woman is dating Howdy, and Cutie Pie is just hopeful. Awwww. How darlin'.

LORD

Oh, Thomas. There is so much wrong going on with your look right now. The hair, the ginormous boutonniere you've taken to wearing everywhere... but I am very, very, very excited about the new album, darling.

And isn't this a lovely review?

5 stars from The Guardian for 'It's Not Me, It's You.'

The best thing about It's Not Me, It's You, though, is Allen's voice. Frankly, I don't give a damn if she learnt cockney at the feet of Dick Van bloomin' Dyke, because it's the balance between the earthiness of her accent and the creaminess of her tone that is the killer element in her pop arsenal; the natural sad smile in her voice lends sincerity to sentiments both cruel and kind. And when our obsession with the aspirational looks increasingly like a global joke, a voice that sounds like we really talk and feel, and makes that sound beautiful, is just the ticket. Lily Allen is the perfect pop star for these crumbling times, and this album is the proof.

Oh, this is great

So...

I've been sans regular computer access for a bit now, but vow to do better at buckling down and writing a bit.

We went to Chicago for gift show last weekend, and I couldn't be more pleased with what we bought for the shop.

Also, I miss traveling with non-hearing impaired, menopausal people. Read- my girl, Jen.

No particular reason for that comment, I swear.

We ordered Lollia, an impossibly posh bath and beauty line, used by the Queen of All Media, Ms. Oprah Winfrey.

Placed a HUGE ribbon order at my own personal crack den, May Arts. I turned about a million shades of red when our salesperson looked at me fawning over double-faced lavender satin ribbon and said:

"You're a ribbon junkie, aren't you?"

Speaking of junkies (and crack), I was rummaging, as I am wont to do, through Borders on Michigan Avenue, when I saw it.

Beg, Steal or Borrow: The Official BabyShambles Story

I may have possibly squealed and nearly trampled a small child in my rush to grab the book. And then stayed up most of the night reading it. I didn't think it was possible, but Drew is even lovelier than my girls and I previously thought. Also, my tendency to want to either slap or cuddle Peter continues.

On a completely unrelated note, Chicago was rather festive last weekend for some reason. Something about an inauguration?

Happy birthday, Mr. Salinger!

Reeling from the success of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger withdrew from public view in the mid-1950s. He published Franny and Zooey in 1961, a collection of novellas (Raise High the Room Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction) in 1963 and then bowed out with a New Yorker short story in 1965. Since then he has spoken only fitfully via his lawyers or been snapped in furious, cowering poses on the roads around his home. And woe betide any of those misguided fans who track him down to explain that they, like, totally love him and can so relate to his retreat from a world of phony bastards. "No you don't," he reportedly told one such visitor. "Or you wouldn't be here."

Resolutions

1. Increase self confidence through natural or artificial means. Whatever it takes.

2. Worry less (quit laughing, Jen)

3. Get into enough shape to run the Bix this year, rather than jog it. Er, walk it briskly.

4. Develop some money management skills

We shall see...

We now know the identity of one of the boogeymen from my childhood...

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A serial killer who died more than a decade ago is the person who decapitated the 6-year-old son of "America's Most Wanted" host John Walsh in 1981, police in Florida said Tuesday. The announcement brought to a close a case that has vexed the Walsh family for more than two decades, launched the television show about the nation's most notorious criminals and inspired changes in how authorities search for missing children.
