Tomorrow are the Iowa caucuses. You may have heard something about this.
As a resident of the Tall Corn State, I'd like to clear up a few misconceptions I've seen floating about on the Internet.
1. Iowa? Not flat. Most of the north part of the state was sculpted by glaciers, and we have the Loess Hills in western Iowa. NOT FLAT. That would be Nebraska.
2. Quit bemoaning the fact that a bunch of "hicks" and "farmers" are going to make an important (or not, as you may believe) decision for the country. You know, we actually do have cities here in flyover country. They have electricity. And indoor plumbing. They may wear shoes there. GOLLLEEE!
It also pisses me off that 'farmer' seems to be a code word for "uneducated rube." You know what you have to be good at to farm? Chemistry. (farm chemicals) Also, it smacks of classist bullshit to me, so knock it the fuck off.
3. Do you really think that we enjoy having (am not exaggerating) 25 MESSAGES FROM POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE when we get home from work? At 2PM? Including one from the Mike Huckabee campaign (gag) and one that started with "I'm Newt Gingrich, and...." DELETE.
Now that rant is out of the way, I'm going to my first caucus tomorrow night, and am quite excited about it. Who am I supporting? Mr. John Edwards. In case you care.
